What is Walk ND?

Walk ND is a walking program to get people moving! This program is a simple and motivating way to boost your physical activity every day, no matter how busy you are. On the average, people take between 2000 - 4000 steps each day. This program will challenge you to walk approximately 200 miles in 8 weeks. You can easily accomplish this challenge by taking 10,000 steps, five days a week for the next eight weeks. That is walking an equivalent of 5 miles a day or 25 miles a week. We offer this eight week challenge three time each year, starting in January, April and September.

You don't need to live in the North Dakota to join this walking challenge. You can walk where ever you live. We just ask that you register, pay the $10 registration fee, ($5 for youth 18 and under) and report your steps by the designated dates every two weeks. An incentive prizes will be given at the completion of the eight weeks to those that report their steps. All participants that report their steps every two weeks throughout the eight week challenge will have their name placed in a drawing for WALK ND jacket. Invite a friend to walk with you so that you can keep on track.

We won't actually be walking around ND, but you can travel that distance by walking on a treadmill, walking inside a walking facility in your community, walking on a walking path, walking around town, on a country road, or just walking around your home or place of business. Just put on a pedometer first thing in the morning and at the end of the day, record the number of steps you've taken. If you don't own a pedometer, record 1 mile for every 20 minutes that you walk.

Remember to please check with your physician before starting any exercise program.
